THE GATE PROJECT

Beginning in 2012 "The Gate Project" has evolved into a ongoing project meant to preserve history, redefine the concept of ''found object'', as well as fabricating new narratives that both support challenge and potentially undermine accepted modes of experiences and understanding.

The ''Gate'' reaches heights of 20 feet, towering over any who approach it. After sections of the surface have been molded the structure is represented in different materials, each with their own unique characteristics. The first portions completed from the gate have been cast into pure lead, revealing qualities of radiance, transformation and often the feeling of caution when approaching a structure made of a material that is a known poison. Alternative plans include casts into bronze, aluminum and stainless steel. "The Gate Project" stands as a system of appropriation through which showing of the same surface presented in different ways yields experiences full of polarities and contradictions.
